Want A Luxury Kitchen? Think French Door Wall Oven!
We were making plans to start renovating our house, and a new 1st floor plan with a large, beautiful kitchen was right on the top of the list. Everything in the kitchen was going to be replaced–cabinets, countertops, flooring, and appliances!
This was extremely exciting for me, and I was going to finally be able to get rid of all my mismatched appliances and have my new rustic luxury kitchen with all brand new stainless steel models. (I don’t think rustic luxury is a real design term, lol, I’m not design savvy at all.) But it best described the vision I had in my head for our beautiful 15-acre rural property, and I went with it–rustic luxury!
When I started looking for an oven, I knew I wanted a wall oven. The first house we ever bought had one, and I’d loved it! So I started looking around and saw some nice ones that had some great features. But then, whoa! I came across a model that stood out from the rest, and my decision was made then and there–a french door wall oven!
The look of it was fantastic, it was classic and modern at the same time. Now before I got too excited, I knew I’d have to check out the function and quality of these ovens. No matter how great something might look in my kitchen, if it doesn’t perform well, it won’t take long before the shine wears off!
So here are the important features I looked for when choosing my wall oven:
~ Consistent temperature performance–If I set it at 350° to make my daughter’s favorite banana bread, I want it to be 350°. All ovens may need to be adjusted slightly when new, but once the temperature is set, it needs to be consistent and reliable!
~ Large enough–When we’re lucky enough to have everybody home for Thanksgiving, there’s quite a crowd! So if I get a 25 lb. turkey, I want it to fit nicely and not be figuring out how to get it in there.
~ Easy to understand controls–I once had an oven with all the latest and greatest technology at the time, but I felt like I spent more time trying to figure out how to use it than I did actually cooking something! Granted, I have been known to be technology challenged at times, but I just want an oven that I don’t have to keep the instruction manual on the counter forever.
~ Convenience Features–I love built-in temperature probes, warming modes, delayed start, timers, basically things that make cooking and baking easier!
~ Self steam cleaning–I know self-cleaning has always been popular, but for me it always took too long and I didn’t like the odor. My sister has an oven with a steam cleaning option I’ve seen in action, and I love it, so that’s an option I wanted.
~ Smart control options–I admit it, I’m not too big into all the “smart” devices out now. But when I’ve got my hands in a bowl mixing meatloaf or breading chicken, there is a definite benefit to being able to control my oven with voice activation. Not having these controls wouldn’t be a deal breaker, but they were definitely on my wish list! With my list in hand, I set out to find my ideal french door wall oven!
Our #1 Recommendation That You’ll Love!
I tell you, this is one terrific looking oven. The sleek stainless steel, the simplicity of the controls, and the classic styling would give a luxury look to any kitchen–or rustic luxury in my case! But the look of this oven is only the half of it. The GE Cafe French Door Oven has all the features that I could want and then some!
~ The french doors slide smoothly and are connected, so they work together and can be opened with one hand. There’s no awkwardness in getting pans in and out of the oven like with a regular pull down door.
~ The oven controls are clear and easy to operate:
~ The 5.0 cubic feet of cooking space is more than enough room to cook large items–I’ll definitely have no trouble with a large turkey this Thanksgiving! ~ It has True European Convection with direct air. There is a 3rd heating element and a variable speed fan to make your convection cooking faster than ever.
~ The GE Cafe French Door Oven has the self steam cleaning option I was looking for! ~ If you love to broil as much as I do, you’ll love the 10 pass dual broiler element–in fact it covers more area than any I’ve looked at.
~ 1 Heavy duty roller rack holds up to 50 lbs. along with 2 other roller racks, and they can stay in place for self-cleaning.
~ This oven can connect with WiFi–another item on my wish list!
Overall, I can say that this french door oven exceeded my expectations–Looks + Performance = A fantastic oven!

Oh, my goodness! These are beautiful! I didn’t know that they made French door wall ovens! I’ve never heard of them before. I thought there was only the one kind of oven doors and never looked to investigate it, either. But, now that I know, when we do look for a new oven, this is what I’m going to be looking at getting! Thank you so much for sharing this!
You are welcome! I was the same way as you, just thought that the color was about the biggest difference in the looks of an oven. So that’s why this french door oven caught my eye–classy and functional!
Thanks for stopping by!
This looks like a fantastic oven. Is the size comparable to a regular oven where you can easily pull out the old one and install this one without having to remodel your kitchen to accommodate it? So it functions as a convection oven…could you cook say, shish kabob or chicken on a metal skewer which you could attach or balance on the rack sides?
Yes, the oven is designed so if you have a 30″ wall oven now, this french door oven will fit in the same opening! The racks are strong enough and set up to where you could set up a metal skewer. That sounds good, you’ve just made me hungry!
This is a wonderful article. Thank you for all of this valuable information on the GE double oven. I am currently planning a full kitchen refurbishment and I have been overwhelmed;med an preoccupied about the type of oven I will install. Well… you have convinced me that the GE Cafe CT9070SHSS 30″ Single French Door Electric Wall Oven is the product that I need. in fact, I think it is the oven of my dreams. I love to bake snd this looks so convenient and has all of the features I have been missing my entire life as a baker! Thank you for the videos as well. They are so very helpful!
I’m glad you found it helpful and enjoyed the videos! It sounds like you love to bake as much as I do, so you will really appreciate all the features this oven has.
Whenever you’re done with your kitchen remodel, I’d love to see pictures!
Wow! I am gobsmacked with the features of this oven! I have never seen an oven like this anywhere, where does one find them? I got a new kitchen back in 2006, but often re design another kitchen in my head, especially when watching designer shows. This would be my choice as well, provided I could find one in Canada. You are so lucky to have this stove! By the way, you’ve done a very thorough review too.
Thank you! The best place I’ve found to purchase this oven is Amazon, and if you click on the picture of the stove in the article, it will take you right to it.
Thank you for stopping by!
This GE’s French Door Wall Ovens are brilliant!. Apart from the elegant appeal of the GE’s French Door Wall Ovens, the features of self clean and the wifi are really fantastic. Indeed the innovation is really exceptional. Thank you for the recomendation and I’m looking forward to have it built on my own house during constuction mid next year. Cheers!
All the best,
Anastacio
You won’t be sorry, and you’ll love the look and function of this oven!
Ironically, I have been doing some research without much success into convection ovens. I was excited to read your review of these ovens and to learn that they were convection as well. My wife and I both love to bake so my next oven will be a convection type. I appreciate your review of the features, the voice seems to be helpful for a busy kitchen.
As a fellow baker, I think you’ll both love this oven. I got into bread making awhile back, and there’s nothing better than biting into a warm slice of homemade bread with a little butter on top!
Thank you for stopping by!
oh, what I would give to be able to install a wall oven in my kitchen. I just don’t have the space I don’t think. Was there a lot of electrical work that needed to be done to install yours, or, was there an existing one already?
This is a beautiful oven. I love the french doors making it easier to remove items. Now you’re making me rethink my future kitchen remodel projects haha
If you are replacing a wall oven that size, this oven will fit without modifications, and there shouldn’t be any rewiring. Our kitchen remodel was a complete gut, so we had to start everything from scratch!
This review highlights the beauty of this new oven.I would certainly consider it next time I need to renovate our kitchen. However, I am confused by some of the descriptions. You mention that the dual doors slide smoothly and can be operated by one hand. However the photo seems to show that the doors are hinged, not sliding.I would also like to know how securely they stay in place when closed. The sliding rack on rollers is a great feature. And finally any indication of price? If I have to ask I probably can not afford it ,but it is an intriguing product that certainly appeals to me.
It’s definitely an oven that I recommend you check out if you’re renovating your kitchen. The doors are hinged at the bottom, but are connected to open with just one hand and this slides easily, and they are very secure when closed.
The best price I’ve found is Amazon, and if you click on either of the images above, they’ll take you right to listing with the most current price.

The French door wall oven looks beautiful. I have always wanted a wall oven and the house I am looking at has one, but not a French door one. Since it is a home that can be built to my specifications, I am definitely doing a change order to include the French door wall oven! The GE Cafe French Door Oven looks like a really good one, too, with a lot of features. I just wonder, though, does the French door keep a tight seal? With a conventional oven door it’s just the top and side that I worry about. Now this one with the closure in the middle, I just would like to know if that seals tight to keep the heat in the oven? Thank you!
The french door oven seals just as well as a standard pull out door oven. This oven is beautiful, and I think you’ll be very happy with it in your house!
Wow Janelle,
I never knew there ever exists French door wall oven. You mean they are fixed to the wall ? Giving you more spacious kitchen and workspace.
Do they not pose any danger to health? I learnt microwave ovens are carcinogenic. Aside that , French door ovens are dreams of every woman who wants a unique and luxurious kitchen designs and appliances.
They are uniquely designed and large enough to accommodate large family delicacies.
This french door wall oven will fit into any space that a regular 30″ wall oven would fit into. No danger to health at all, they are every bit as safe as an standard oven. They have the french doors instead of the usual pull out door, and I think they’re actually safer because you’re not leaning over a hot door to get food out!
Love the rustic-luxury term, if it’s not a design term it should be 🙂
We are looking to replace our oven at the moment and your review has been really helpful. Our oven is tiny!! and that’s the main reason why it needs to go so very interested to read your take on the sizes of these french door ovens. I am seriously considering the double wall oven, it looks spectacular.
Thanks heaps for your article, now just to make a decision.
I’m so glad it was helpful and hope you find your perfect oven! The more I think of the term rustic luxury, the more I like it–maybe I coined a new term, lol.
Hi Janelle, I didn’t know these things existed. Where have they been all my life?? Now I won’t rest until that Double French Door Wall Oven is in my kitchen. I have to say when I first saw the French door wall oven, I thought it was a beautiful oven, but I wondered about its practicality as I’d assumed you’d need 2 hands to open the doors, and I was envisaging burnt hands and dropped pans, but then you said you can open it with one hand and I’m like “I need this oven!!”
Thanks so much for your review and I’m pleasantly surprised with the prices too. Very affordable and would make such a lovely difference to the kitchen.
Your reaction is the same one I had when I saw my first french door oven! Gorgeous and functional–I couldn’t resist it!
Hi Janelle – this was great information on the GE French Door Wall Oven. I currently have a double wall oven and really like it, although it is getting very old and will need to be replaced soon. That would definitely be an upgrade to my current oven.
Thank you for this information!
Michele
You’re welcome–I think you’ll love all the features of this oven!
What a stylish looking oven! I must say that French door ovens are not very common here in Australia. It certainly would be impressive to have one installed and would definitely be a talking point when I have guests over. I like that you can open the doors with just one hand.
French door ovens have been identified as one of the hottest kitchen trends for 2019, so I think you’ll start seeing more of them!
This is utterly facinating. I have not seen an oven is beautiful as it and having every awesome feature which includes the smart feature too. I mean, who doesn’t love smart. So I’ll just be able to remove my old oven and put this one in easy without breaking a sweat, Wow, beautiful. I think I’d have a great time baking in this oven. We’re looking to remodel our kitchen, and this oven just went to the top of the list!
It’s an absolutely beautiful oven, and I have no doubt that you’ll love the features and quality!
This looks like such a great oven! I absolutely agree that having consistent temperature performance is key. I’ve had too many recipe failures in the past due to dodgy oven temperatures. It’s been so disappointing when I’ve put hours into making something special and bought the highest quality ingredients to find my piece of art has come out burnt! I’d love a steam cleaning oven too! That would save me so much work. Thanks for the great review, French door wall ovens look fantastic!
These ovens do look fantastic, but I agree that temperature control and performance have to be there as well. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed in that area!
Every single place I have lived has always had the standard oven either as a stand alone in the corner next to the fridge or within the counter space as I have it now. I am in the process of planning a kitchen renovation but I hadn’t given any though about changing the oven other than to get a more modern looking one.
I am already looking into natural stone counter tops and back splash tiles. I’ll be researching cabinets next. But now that I see these French Door Wall Ovens, they look super cool. This is something I need to reconsider. I have never had a wall oven and to pair it with one that has French doors, this could be a great renovation experience. Thanks for this post.
Planning our kitchen renovation was how I came across these great french door ovens, and I knew I had to incorporate one into my design. The function is as great as it looks!
Hello, Jenelle.
I’ve seen these used many times in combo with the lower oven in many of the renovation programs on HGTV. Perhaps you have seen those programs as well. They have many great ideas and the end product is amazing.
I really do like that French /door option though and it does seem to make things easier an with the added space in the lower oven well, there is enough space to do all your baking and roasting at the same time. And having those doors at the midsection is something I like as well. Great for those who have back issues so they don’t have to bend so much.
We have a regular glass top stove with an oven below which is good for us. The combo would be nice to have but just not in the budget nor do we have space but I can certainly see the practicality for those who cook and entertain a lot.
And, yes, it is very nice looking,
Wayne
It’s definitely a great oven for those who entertain or do a lot of cooking and baking. You’re right that a french door wall oven is great for those who have back trouble and have a hard time bending over.
Thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts!
Yes, it WAS a wonderful oven for serious home chefs with back troubles. Until it stopped working, that is.
If you’d asked me about my oven three months ago, I would’ve given it five stars and sung it’s praises. I loved it. It was my pride and joy in my newly remodeled chef’s kitchen. But then, both ovens stopped working. It’s so shot that it can’t even keep time. I must’ve bought the only lemon in the whole line. My french door double wall oven was installed in November, and the whole mother board control panel had blown by May. I’ve been fighting with GE to have it fixed ever since, as it was under warranty.
I scheduled a repair, but was notified they had to order the part. I waited patiently. After a couple weeks, I checked in to see if the part had arrived. The rep insisted the servicer had already been there. I assured her that he had not and I had the security footage to prove it. She said she’d check on it. Nothing. After three weeks, I spoke with the exact same rep, who once again insisted the servicer had been there. I had to go through all that spiel again, and I still don’t think she believed me. She pawned me off to a customer advocate. The customer advocate checked and affirmed the servicer HAD NOT been to my house. DUH! She said the parts weren’t due to arrive to the servicer for another week. Once they arrived, I would be put on the schedule immediately. After six weeks of waiting for parts, their customer advocate told me they had no idea when the parts would there, so they’d just replace my oven with a new one. A week later, she told me they couldn’t get me a new one, but she’d continue looking for options. After nine weeks, she told me they’d buy it back. Still waiting for that to work out. Unfortunately, I foresee dealing with the BBB and possibly hiring a lawyer. The funny thing is that if I take them to small claims court, the cost of my oven would exceed the $5,000 the courts award.
It has been a NIGHTMARE dealing with GE. Lowe’s doesn’t even sell this oven now. The rep I spoke with said GE had been giving them fits on any parts that were electronic, and advised me to steer clear of purchasing a GE when I buy my new oven. I will lose money through their buyback and have to deal with all the hassle of having the old oven hauled away and the new one delivered and installed.
I hate to be a bummer, but I thought I should warn any consumer that is considering this oven. It’s a huge expense, and unfortunately for me, it’s been a huge nightmare. I have decided to make it my mission to provide an honest review of this oven everywhere I can in hopes that nobody else will be hassled like I’ve been.
I am so sorry to hear of your experience! It’s extremely disappointing whenever someone has such a problem with customer service. There have been several readers who’ve had a great experience with GE reps, so I’d love to hear an update whenever this issue gets resolved. Customer service is a big part of buying from a company, especially when you’re looking at something as large as a kitchen appliance. Thank you for sharing with us, and I hope it’s resolved soon!
These type of ovens are honestly amazing, production wise at least. My aunt has had one of these for over 7 years now and it still looks like brand new. They also tend to give your kitchen a nice and warm feeling which is great when looking for appliances when doing house renovations. If a house does not have a wall oven, do you think it’ll be a good idea building one from scratch?
Incorporating a wall oven into a kitchen that doesn’t currently have one is definitely a great idea! There are some great videos on YouTube that show you how to build a cabinet and install the oven. I absolutely love wall ovens and french door ovens just can’t be beat for their beautiful design.
I’ve always thought these ovens looked very neat and I thought about installing one in our house but just haven’t got around to it yet. It seems like these ovens are nice and have lots of great features this definitely looks like a luxury oven to me. I love the stainless steel construction as well it would go perfect with lots of different appliances. Thanks for sharing this great article.
Thanks ,
Jonathon
You’re welcome, and thank you for stopping by!
So I love the look of a French door on an oven. Its unique so not everyone has that type of oven and it looks pretty functional. I just wonder if when you open one door does the other one open at the same time or is each door open separately? I can imagine holding a 25lbs turkey and opening both door but one door decides to slowly close on its own. I’m just imagining the worst as usual.
The doors are attached so that you can open them with one hand–a feature that I like because I had the same concern. With an appliance like an oven, it’s always good to check out those kinds of features!
